Honda Jazz hybrid
August 30th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
HONDA will show a hybrid version of the 5 door Jazz supermini at next months’ Paris Motor Show.
This will see it become the first hybrid petrol-electric supermini in the world – and it’s one that will soon come to market.
Honda will sell the Jazz Hybrid in the UK from early 2011.
The speed to market has come because it draws heavily from the Honda Insight petrol-electric hybrid. This sandwiches an electric motor between a 1.3-litre engine and CVT automatic gearbox.
It means the Jazz Hybrid can run on electric power alone at low speeds; the sort of city motoring where many spend a lot of their time, in fact.
You won’t miss it; a special bright green metallic is offered on the Jazz Hybrid; other metallics are available. Elsewhere, changes include blue surrounds for the headlights either side of a new grille, clear rear lights and revised bumpers.
Honda has fitted blue lighting for the instruments too; leather is also available as an option for the Jazz.
No word yet on CO2 or economy figures yet, though. This means we don’t expect it to break the 100g/km CO2 barrier, as the Insight fails to beat this benchmark either.
But we would love to be proven wrong! Next month, we’ll be in Paris to find out all…
