Highest Nissan share in 6
October 8th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
NISSAN has used scrappage to push its market share above 4 percent, for the first time in 6 years.
The UK-producing Japanese firm says key to this success are models built by the Sunderland factory – a staggering 82 percent of Nissans sold here last month were also built here.
16,908 sales helped snare it the seventh-best sellers place, putting it ahead of Citroen and Honda. This equates to a total market share of 4.3 percent.
And the car that sold most of all? Well, it’s not a budget scrappage special, despite the firm’s 8-10 year old £2k trade-in scrappage extension offer. No, it’s the family crossover Qashqai, which competes against the Ford Focus and aids healthy returns for car dealers.
5583 Qashqais were registered in September, making it the UK’s 14th best selling car.
‘Nothing gives the UK car industry a boost like strong Nissan sales’ said the firm’s MD, Paul Willcox.
‘As the UK’s biggest car maker, we can make a bigger difference to Britain’s manufacturing industry than any of our competitors, and we’re delighted to be celebrating strong sales in September.’
The firm is all set for more of the same, too. ‘With the right models, offers and incentives in place, we look forward to sustaining sales success throughout the rest of the year.’
