Green new Audi TT
March 24th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
AUDI has finally introduced its superb green 1.8 TFSI petrol engine to the TT Roadster range.
The new variant not only has a keen £23,910 list price, but it also returns nearly 41mpg.
This gives it a CO2 figure of 159g/km – below the key 160g/km benchmark, and ensuring it will appeal to business drivers.
The new entry-level TT Roadster only comes in drop-top guise, and enjoys a list price over £3500 below the previous cheapest TT Roadster.
Yet Audi hasn’t stripped it out completely – there’s still an electric hood, climate control, six-speed gearbox and 17-inch alloys.
The leather of the car in the image is, however, optional. Cloth seats come as standard in the 1.8 TFSI TT Roadster.
It’s swift, though. The peachy 160PS turbo engine hits 60mph in 7.4 seconds, and will go on to 139mph.
Order books are open now: we reckon it could well prove popular.

“Green TT”? Isn’t the CO2 about 20g/km higher than the diesel?

It is – but key for company drivers is the sub-160g/km… Hence, many fleets will label it as a ‘green friendly’ car, and add it to their company lists. Ooh, and the Roadster TT TDI is 145g/km, not 139g/km (more weight/less aero, I’m guessing). Then there’s the whole debate about diesel particulates!
Complex issue, but bald facts for the fleets to whom this seems to be aimed at is the sub-160g/km figure. Thus, to them, it will be ‘green’. Me, I’d prefer silver…
