Germany overtakes UK
March 16th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
FORD of Europe now sells more cars in Germany than in the UK, due to the German scrappage scheme.
The news will increase pressure on the UK Government to introduce a similar scheme over here.
In February 2009, over 10,000 more Fords were sold in Germany than in the UK – thanks to a German sales rise of nearly 50 percent.
The maker sold 36,500 cars in February, said Autobeat Daily Europe, with Fiesta and Ka models responsible for much of the sales boom.
German car buyers get a 2500 Euro inventive when they scrap cars nine years old or more for ‘green’ new models.
While small Ford sales are thriving in the UK too, the maker is hoping the UK government takes similar steps over here – if only to help the UK market regain its top slot.
The 48 per cent rise in German Ford sales has provided a timely boost for the maker, which reports that its small car factories are running at full capacity.
