German car sales magic
May 7th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
SCRAP scheme incentives are continuing to encourage German buyers into new car dealer showrooms.
The latest sales figures show that there was a boost of almost a fifth in April, compared to the same period in 2008.
This is down from a 40 percent rise in March, but is still much better than other EU countries.
Car sales have fallen sharply in France and Italy, as well as the UK, which releases latest figures this morning.
Government here will be hoping the new car scrap scheme incentive has a similar effect to that seen in Germany.
It gets underway on 18 May, when new car buyers will be offered £2000 off any car, if they scrap one aged 10 years or older.
Some car dealers have already reported encouraging news. Hyundai, for example, has said enquiries at car dealers have boomed by 400 percent.
Kia has also been struggling to meet demand for pre-orders of the low-cost Picanto.
