Geneva: Dacia UK bound

DACIA will be introduced to the UK in 2012 with Renault car dealers central to the new brand’s plans.
The budget car line will be sold through Renault UK dealers to ensure maximum economies of scale.
Renault boss Patrick Pelata has made the announcement at the Geneva Motor Show, confirming the much-rumoured expansion of the Dacia brand into the UK.
It is exciting news for dealers, said a spokesman: in parts of Europe last year, Dacia won more market share than any other brand – and sales of 88,000 in Germany alone almost match those of Renault UK.
This will provide UK dealers with welcome incremental volume for little additional investment.
The business model is based on Dacia being sold through a branded corner of Renault dealer showrooms. Car Dealer Magazine was told that ‘only if the sales volume stacks up will they get separate premises – we get best value from sharing economies of scale.’
Prices are going to be extremely competitive. The new Duster small crossover is offered in 4-wheel driver or 2-wheel drive guise – and entry prices will come in at below the £10k mark.
‘Dacia’s European sales curve is rocketing upwards,’ added our contact. ‘We are very excited about the possibilities in the UK.’
The next few years will be spent gearing up the dealer network for the launch of the new brand. If you are a Renault car dealer, are you looking forward to getting on board?
