Ford top in January again
February 4th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
FORD once again took the top 2 sales slots in the UK new car sales chart with the Fiesta top dog.
It was followed up by the Ford Focus, continuing a Ford 1-2 trend.
Other brands had reason to celebrate too, though. Hyundai came in 8th with its scrappage-smash-hit i10, while the Audi A3 was also a good performer in 9th place.
The results mark a huge 29.8 percent boost on last year’s sales figures. However, new car dealers should not get too carried away, warns the SMMT.
New car sales for January, at 145,479, were still a significant 16,618 cars down on January 2008.
What’s more, with the end of the scrappage scheme, SMMT officials are predicting a gradual tail-off in new car sales boosts. This will see the new car market decline to a predicted year-end total of 1.817 million units.
This will mean the market scores the lowest annual total since 1993.
However, it is expected to recover again, to 2 million units by 2012.
