Ford top again in Feb
FORD yet again leads the way for new car sales with latest February 2010 data giving it another 1-2.
The Fiesta topped the new car sales charts with 3236 units sold. Ford’s Focus was 2nd with 3035 sales.
In 3rd place, but more than 500 units behind, was the Volkswagen Golf with 2586 sales. That was just behind the new Vauxhall Astra which sold 2524 models.
Other top 10 impressive efforts include the continued success of Hyundai – the i10 scored a 6th place in the top 10, meaning it is 8th overall for year-to-date sales. Kia came in 9th place with the Picanto.
The new Volkswagen Polo won 1900 sales and was ahead of its arch-rival, the Peugeot 207, in 10th place. But the Vauxhall Corsa led both and came in 5th place.
Demand for small cars overall continues to rise, says the SMMT – although all sales types reported growth in February, it remains focused on the scrappage-boosted private sector.
All eyes are now on March 2010 sales. Traditionally, it is the strongest month of the year for car dealers, with proportional sales averaging around 18 percent. This year, with the end of scrappage, it could be even higher, which will greatly boost Q1 sales.
Are you currently confident of a strong March, too?
