Ford: we’re still top!
September 4th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
FORD sales outperformed the market three times over, says the blue oval – with market share increasing.
The brand now commands 16.9 percent of the total new car market.
That compares with 16.1 percent a year ago.
What’s more, the new car market may well be up 6 percent – but Ford’s sales have rocketed an amazing 17 percent! And scrappage? Well, it accounted for 1400 of that 10,755-strong total.
The scrap scheme’s attractiveness to retail buyers meant Ford sold 25 percent more private cars in August. And, of the 155,000-strong scrappage sales, it’s taken 13,000 of them.
But while it’s pleased, Ford MD Nigel Sharp is also surprised that August has gone so well. ‘The momentum of scrappage through early summer, together with September’s plate change, suggests a busy month ahead at Ford dealerships.’
So be prepared, blue oval car dealers!
