Ford sales landmark

July 9th, 2009 by Richard Aucock

ford-monthly-sales-landmarkFORD has posted its first year-on-year sales increase in almost a year, thanks to the scrappage scheme.

The long-awaited sales turnaround saw Ford dealers sell 29,8000 cars in June. In the same period back in 2008, they sold 28,657 motors.

As the overall new car market is down, this means Ford’s market share has rocketed to 16.9 per cent – an increase of over 3 percent.

Vans were doing even better, taking 30 percent of the market. That is Ford’s highest share since 1999.

Ford of Britain MD Nigel Sharp was understandably pleased. ‘To beat a fiercely competitive market in the tough economic climate we’re in proves that customers see the new Ford vehicle range as an exciting opportunity not to be missed.’

This range includes the scrappage-incentivised small car Ka, Fiesta and Fusion range. Registrations had already returned to levels of a year ago back in May for those. Now, the rest of the range has followed suit.

Ford has recorded more than 13,000 scrappage orders – and, in a further boost to its green credentials, Ford’s revealed a green bonus here. Analysis shows those 13,000 cars will reduce UK CO2 levels by 9350 tonnes a year…
