Fleets back in favour
January 8th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
FLEET experts are expecting car firms to begin a company car charm offensive to drive 2010 sales.
The BVRLA says that, without scrappage, it will be hoped fleets will pick up the slack.
Indeed, there could be a double bonus for car firms and dealers. Whereas scrappage sales have driven small, cheap cars, fleet buyers prefer larger, high-spec and costlier cars.
This will mean greater profits for all concerned.
’2009 was a real slump year in the business car market, which saw its share of new car registrations fall below 50% for the first time in 16 years,’ said BVRLA chief John Lewis.
Companies extended their loans instead of replacing cars – but ‘these vehicles will need to be replaced soon.
‘With an economic recovery underway and firms beginning to recruit again, we expect fleet car sales to pass the million mark in 2010, providing a vital shot in the arm for manufacturers.’
Now that scrappage is coming to an end, will you be turning to the fleet car market?
