Fiat’s BEST share in years
September 4th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
FIAT Group is celebrating, after sales in August turned the clock back to 2001 for the three-brand maker.
Sales rose by more than 85 percent year-on-year, to give the firm its biggest market share since May 2001.
Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Abarth snared 5.14 percent of total UK sales – and even the 4.5 percent of Fiat on its own was enough for a top-10 place in the market share listing.
What’s driving all this? Well, the Fiat 500 has sold more than 26,000 units since its launch in January last year. The Alfa MiTo has also shifted more than 3000 since January 2009 – a fine result for the reborn brand.
That’s nothing though, says Fiat. Retail sales are up 174 percent – and Alfa’s private sales are up a staggering 233 percent! Even year-to-date, Alfa has shot up 88 percent – in a market where the average retail share is down 12.3 percent. That’s quite something.
This is a remarkable series of results for the Fiat Group,’ said Fiat MD Andrew Humberstone. It ‘highlights once again the growing popularity of Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Abarth vehicles in this country.
‘This is part of the overall business strategy we implemented two years ago, and we are beginning to see the fruits of this in terms of brand, market share and positive residual value movements.’
