Euro NCAP: Renault’s 12
August 26th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
RENAULT’S new Grand Scenic is the French maker’s 12th car to score a full 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
That’s despite the latest test being tougher and more severe than ever before.
It means Renault bags the boast of car manufacturer with the most full Euro NCAP crash test ratings of all – and thus, officially, the title of safest brand in Europe?
Standard ESP stability control on all models is a big factor behind the score, though Renault also points to:
• 6 airbags
• Twin side impact sensors
• Twin-stage front airbags
• 2-stage seatbelt pre-tensioners
• ‘Smart’ head rests
The extra side impact protection is of particular importance, given the Grand Scenic’s family-orientated role, says Renault: a third of all city deaths are caused by crashes from the side.
It draws, of course, from the safety innovations of the latest Megane. And the score should perhaps be no surprise; that car won the best-ever Euro NCAP score for adult protection…
