Euro NCAP unveil
CAR Dealer has already reported on what the new Euro NCAP rules will mean to you – before the wider media.
Tomorrow, the first tests to be conducted under the new rules are out; hence the wider interest in the press today.
What, in short, does it mean? Safer, but potentially more expensive, cars.
The ratings system has been changed, to place greater emphasis on associated safety measures, such as child safety and pedestrian protection, rather than solely driver safety.
It will also be impossible to get a 5 star NCAP score if ESP is not fitted as standard – and it is this element that will see prices of some smaller cars rise.
The current system, which allows ‘5 star’ cars to be just advertised by their level of driver protection, will be outlawed.
Come back to Car Dealer, for full analysis of the first cars to be assessed under the new regime.
Believe us, the wider media are going to go BIG on this: the top-rated dealers should prepare for a flurry of safety-related interest and questions…
