Euro NCAP latest

EURO NCAP has just announced its latest crash test results – and it’s 5 stars for 5 cars tested.
Top-rated cars include three models with ESP stability control across the range.
The 5 star performers are:
• Audi Q5
• Honda Jazz
• Hyundai i20
• Kia Soul
• Peugeot 3008
The Suzuki Alto was also tested – and scored a disappointing 3 stars.
Suzuki has since responded by making ESP optional on all Alto versions. For any chance of scoring a top rating, ESP needs to be standard on the majority of models.
Particular praise from Euro NCAP was given to the Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20, for their good pedestrian safety scores.
These both meet current and future regulations.
Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP, said: ‘At the heart of the new rating scheme is the objective to offer consumers a full picture of a car’s overall safety performance.
‘Many claim that the weight and size of a car is the only criteria for safety. We believe that there are other aspects of safety that are just as important.
The smaller cars we tested, whose results are released today, show that size should not stand in the way of all-round safety.’
Today’s results are the latest step in a three-year Euro NCAP campaign, to tighten up crash test demands. All-round safety will be prioritised, not just protection of occupants in the event of a smash.
