CLASSIC cars from the 1970s and 1980s are experiencing booming demand, report car dealers.
Sales have risen by nearly a quarter during the past year alone.
‘Television shows such as the BBC’s ‘Ashes to Ashes’ earlier this year brought a revived interest in more contemporary classic cars such as the Audi Quattro and Ford Capri,’ explains Nick Lindsay, Director of HPI.
The data check company is keen to point out that its records go back further even than the ‘70s and ‘80s. So it carried out a survey on dream cars of the 1980s cars.
Porsche’s 911 came out in top spot, with nearly 1/3 of the votes. The Audi Quattro was close behind, on 28 per cent.
‘Whether used car buyers are opting for the quirky Citroen 2CV, or the more stylish Triumph Stag, we advise them to make sure they conduct an HPI Check for peace of mind.’
But for dealer thinking old cars are more trouble than they’re worth, he points out the advantages of such cars, too. The main draw for car buyers is ease of maintenance and repair.
Wit Ashes to Ashes and other retro shows set to make a TV comeback, now could be the time to investigate an interesting sideline in your business. If only for the publicity alone…
