Cortina makes thousands
February 19th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
BCA has just sold the first Ford Cortina through its car auction halls in years – and it made a 4 figure sum.
The Ford Cortina 2000GT made £2200 in, fittingly, the Top Car Sale at Blackbushe.
What’s more, Car Dealer Magazine has heard from the winning bidder!
A Mk3 model, Car Dealer Magazine last week reported on the 1976 car’s entry into the car auction. This seems to have done the job – loads of bidders expressed interest, both in the hall and online.
Provenance probably helped: the car has for the past 3 years been owned by and used in the BBC’s Culture Show.
BCA Ford Cortina facts
• 86,200 miles
• 1976/R reg
• Black paint – resprayed 6 years ago
• Chrome bumpers
• 2.0-litre Pinto OHC engine
• Optional K&N air filter
But who bought it?
The chaps at Autoleisure won the bid online! We heard from them yesterday with a bit of a progress update:
It needs a bit of work so, whilst the black with blue stripe is relevant to its BBC history, we are thinking of striping back to metal and painting in its original silver color code; any opinions on this would be welcome!
We will update our website with a project page so you can see its progress…
Car Dealer Magazine certainly will: come back for more as Project Cortina develops!

Yes, strip it back and repaint it in its original colours – it’ll thank you for it. Whoever thought a turquoise Starsky and Hutch stripe and turquoise tyre marks on the bonnet was a good idea should be made to have them on their own car!

Definately back to the original colours! Takes me back a bit – my second car was a MkIII Cortina (and my first was a MkII 1600E) – I only remember the good bits now……..
