Citroen uncovers new C3
July 1st, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CITROEN will, from early 2010, sell this all-new version of its Ford Fiesta-rivaling C3 supermini.
The new look is fresh and smart, but it’s the distinctive front windscreen that will really catch car buyers’ eyes in dealer showroom.
This stretches far deeper into the roof than normal, creating a panoramic effect. Expect the ‘Visiodrive’ feature to be cleverly promoted in showrooms – and, Citroen dealers, don’t worry. Sunblinds are fitted, too…
Impressively, this feature, plus a big boost in quality and refinement, have come with no weight increase over the ageing current car. This, along with smooth aerodynamics and a drag factor Cd of 0.30, means fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been cut.
Citroen will, from launch, sell a 99g/km CO2 HDi 90 rival to the Ford Fiesta Econetic and VW Polo Bluemotion.
By 2011, new diesel engines with stop-start will slash this to just 90g/km. and there will also be a three-cylinder petrol emitting less than 100g/km CO2, too.
This will ensure it’s immediately one of the greener superminis on the market.
There’s a 300-litre boot, and the car comes in at under 4 metres in length. Making it one of the more compact superminis in the sector.
No word yet on prices – or, indeed, if we’ll be seeing it at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Either way, if Citroen comes out with its usual super-keen deals, it could be yet another exciting new car for the rejuvenated brand.
