Chinese cars come to UK
December 19th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CHINESE Great Wall cars will be sold by IM Group car dealers, confirming Car Dealer reports on Monday.
The Subaru, Isuzu and Daihatsu car dealer importer will import the Chinese models from next year.
However, UK car dealers will not get the cars until 2011. First, IM Group will import cars to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Scandinavia, UK and Ireland will not follow until 2011.
The deal was pulled together by IM Group’s 40-plus team at its Beijing office. The Birmingham firm has operated there for over 15 years.
Great Wall says the Europe-bound models have been designed specifically to meet EU Type Approval. It is a big assembler, with the capacity to make more than 800,000 cars a year. It employs 22,000 people.
IM Group says it will start work next year on readying the UK for the first official import of Chinese models. This will include priming car dealers.
