Car dealers’ efficiency

EFFICIENT management of labour and time will be key to independent garages’ future growth.
This, reports the RMI, will help independents to benefit from changing customer patters.
The Independent Garage Association expects an increase in customer volumes to independents, as a result of the recession.
But many smaller car dealers and car garages will not take full advantage of these opportunities.
The risk is that inefficient management will stem any profits growth.
‘Effective labour management is vital,’ said IGA chairman Jonas Zambakides.
For example, ‘each job must be completed within an allotted time. Any job that seriously overruns its allocated time may just as well have not been undertaken at all.
‘The business will be losing money.’
Thus, he advises, ‘every business must have a structured supply line for parts, as if the technicians must wait for parts, the job will be held up – and will cost the business money.
‘Investment in training, equipment, and efficient systems is paramount for businesses to achieve optimum profitability.’
