Party time at dealer

July 21st, 2009 by Richard Aucock

car-dealer-holds-party-to-beat-recessionFIAT Guernsey car dealer Dave Beausire has held a big launch party, to fight the current industry gloom.

The Le Mont Saint dealer marked the arrival of the Fiat 500 C with the lavish garden party, as Beausire made a very public statement of positive thinking.

It was centred around the Fiat 500, because this is the model that has ‘proven itself as the centrepiece of a very positive business plan, in the midst of the worst world recession in living memory.’

Hundreds of guests attended the Italian-themed evening – which had many people questioning Beausire’s logic in holding such an event in tough times.

He responded by saying that ‘in any recession, there are business opportunities – and the one we’re looking at is to promote economical, environmentally friendly, fuel efficient motor cars.

‘Hopefully, the people who came to the party will have experienced the confidence we have, and maybe this will boost a few more to think ‘Let’s push the boat out, let’s not sit there just waiting for things to happen’.

‘I believe if they can see confidence in a depressed market, they will tell others and the message will spread.’

The numbers certainly add up. Le Mont Saint boasts a market share double that of Fiat’s national average – and key to this is Beausire’s policy of investing for the future, even in tough times.

‘We’ve increased our staffing this year, we’ve focussed on where we want to be in the next six to 12 months’ time and we’re going to continue to drive the business forward.’

The evening proved a sales hit, too. ‘We’ve ordered the cars and have taken sold orders from this event.’

What’s the secret, then? ‘It’s supply and demand – the demand is here in Guernsey, so we had to make sure we had the supply.

‘In the current climate, there’s a shortage of smaller cars, and we wanted to make sure we were ahead of the game.

‘We’re already seeing signs of things picking up again with our forward orders.

‘This isn’t the first recession our business has been through; the plus side is interest rates are low – in the last recession they were over 15 percent, so we’re in a strong position.

Proof that positive thinking, coupled with the right product, can counter any recession?
