Car buyers want VAT held
December 9th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR buyers would rather VAT was held at 15 percent instead of the scrappage scheme being further extended.
Motorpoint has surveyed more than 1500 car buyers and found that most don’t want VAT to go back up to 17.5 percent.
The Chancellor is expected to raise VAT back up in today’s Pre-Budget Report. The change will commence from January 1 2010.
MD David Shelton said that ‘unlike the scrappage scheme, keeping VAT at 15 percent would benefit all car buyers, saving them hundreds of pounds at a time when they need it most.’
He sounded an optimistic note: ‘Let’s hope the Chancellor delivers some good news on the VAT front on today’s Pre-Budget Report.’
