CAP crowns crackers

December 18th, 2009 by Richard Aucock

cap-crowns-decade-crackersCAP has ranked the UK’s top used market stars of the past 10 years – with Ford topping the overall list.

The Ford Focus is CAP’s official Used Car of the Decade.

Judges included many used market experts. They voted unanimously to give the overall prize to the Ford Focus, thanks to it setting ‘new standards of quality in the volume car market during the decade’.

It ‘shook up a conservative small family car sector,’ said CAP judging panel chairman Mark Norman, ‘in which the only truly desirable car had, for a long time, been the Volkswagen Golf.’

This result saw it naturally top its own category in the CAP awards – but Ford wasn’t the only car brand to feature in the used car honours.

Car Dealer Magazine can run through the full list of winners:

•    Small Used Car of the Decade: Ford Focus
•    Large Used Family Car of the Decade: Volkswagen Passat
•    Executive Used Car of the Decade: Audi A3
•    Luxury Used Car of the Decade: BMW X5

SEAT was also awarded a special prize – that of Most Improved Used Car Brand of the Decade. This was, said CAP, because of coming ‘from zero to hero’ in 10 years.

What do you think of the CAP awards? Which cars and brands get your overall prize? Do please discuss here!
