4×4 prices recovering
HPI Valuations is warning car dealers to buy posh SUVs now before prices used prices start to rise.
The under-fire sector is finally showing signs of recovery and prices are expected to go up.
It is all thanks to newer greener models such as the BMW X6 and latest versions of the Land Rover Discovery 4, says HPI’s Martin Keighley.
This is helping overcome the ‘demonisation’ of the ‘Chelsea Tractor’ that has added to the unwelcome effects of the recession over the past year.
‘With greener versions now available, petrol models and other more polluting models are getting left behind – environmentally conscious car-buyers can now purchase a 4×4 without it weighing on their conscience.
‘As a result, demand for this sector is rising, along with values… buyers looking to own one shouldn’t leave it very long.’
HPI has produced its top 10 4×4s by retained value, which shows the BMW X6 at the head of the list. However, take monthly deprecation into account, and it’s the Land Rover Discovery 4 that comes out top overall. Keighley also rates the Range Rover Sport, SsangYong Rexton and Nissan Pathfinder.
‘Criticism of this sector has eased off and for the first time in a long time,’ he added.
‘Driving one of these cars carries less of a stigma following the development of environmentally friendlier models. People who want to own and drive 4×4s should be able to do so without being vilified.’
