Budget measures no help
March 30th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
BUDGET measures such as the pothole tax and staggered fuel duty rise are not going to help new and used car dealers.
Ian Simpson, director at The Warranty Group reckons even the electric vehicle encouragement scheme is not going to help dealers ‘sell new and used cars or increase aftersales activity during 2010.
‘There are no new incentives to replace the scrappage scheme and dealers are now left in a position where their results they achieve during the rest of this year will very much be as a result of their own efforts.’
However, there is a flipside to things, he added. ‘It is worth remembering that it was as recently as a year ago that the economy was threatening to go into freefall and that moment has passed.
‘While times remain very tough, the economy is not worsening and profits are still a very real possibility for dealers that make the most of the opportunities that come their way.’
