BUDGET: Dealer delighted
April 22nd, 2009 by Richard Aucock
MOTORPOINT MD David Shelton has given the launch of a new car scrappage scheme the big thumbs-up.
‘We’re delighted that the Government has finally put the wheels in motion for the car scrappage scheme to begin,’ said the boss of the car supermarket.
‘It is clear from mainland Europe that the scheme has been an overwhelming success since it was launched at the turn of the year, providing manufacturers and franchised dealers alike with a welcome uplift in sales.’
Such aid is vital, he said. ‘The UK car industry is currently at a 20-year low, and something desperately needs to be done to reverse its fortunes.
‘Although the fine detail of the scheme is still to be worked out, the news that is to happen will come as a huge relief to an industry which employs over 800,000 people in this country.’
