August sales UP 6%
NEW car sales continued to rise in August, with official figures revealing a 6% increase, according to the SMMT.
The big winner was Hyundai, whose baby i10 has leapt to THIRD PLACE OVERALL in the sales charts - overtaking the Vauxhall Corsa.
Even more significantly, the brand is TOP for overall retail sales - beating the mighty blue oval, Ford!
It’s the second successive month of new car sales GROWTH, with 67,006 new car registrations recorded.
‘New car registrations in August increased for the second successive month, providing welcome news for the UK motor industry,’ said SMMT chief Paul Everitt.
‘The scrappage incentive scheme is having a positive impact, but with consumer and business confidence still fragile, there remain significant risks ahead.
‘It is essential that these early signs of recovery are sustained into 2010.’
Sales likely to be up 5.5 percent in August
