BMW ‘worst on road’

May 28th, 2009 by Richard Aucock

bmw-drivers-worst-on-roadBMW drivers are the worst on the road, says a new survey from comparison site Auto Trader Compare.

Bad driving, speeding, dangerous overtakes and intimidation are all accusations thrown up by the insurance comparison tool’s survey.

Nearly two in three of the 1500 motorists quizzed agreed it’s BMW drivers who are worst… but they’re not the only motorists to receive the wrath of respondents, as the results of ‘worst drivers’ reveals:

•    BMW – 59%
•    Subaru – 42%
•    Porsche – 39%
•    Audi – 30%
•    Mercedes-Benz – 27%

And if those results are controversial, spare a thought for van drivers… EVERY SINGLE RESPONDENT agrees that they are the WORST on the road!

Young drivers weren’t far behind, with 98 percent agreeing they were poor. Nine out of 10 said elderly drivers were also given the thumbs-down – in contrast, surprisingly, to bus and HGV drivers.

They were rated as best road users.

Needless to say, nearly a quarter of respondents reckoned their own driving was ‘excellent’. Two-thirds said it was ‘good’.

Interestingly, though, Matt Thompson, director at autotrader.co.uk, revealed that ‘motorists change bad driving habits with the rising cost of motoring.’

Today, over three-quarters of motorists are driving greener, by revving the engine less. Over half admit their driving style has changed to improve fuel consumption.

Proof positive that both the recession and  environmental concerns are causing a shift in driver behaviour. Will this be carried through to the cars they buy?

Auto Trader also asked which car owners considered themselves ‘greenest’:

•    Toyota – 38%
•    Honda – 37%
•    Volkswagen – 23%
•    Volvo – 23%
•    Citroen – 19%

Seems the hybrid halo is once again working for Toyota…
