BMW dealer pricey?
November 5th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
BMW car dealer Murketts of Huntingdon has launched a distinctive drive to improve its aftersales business.
The ‘Think We’re Expensive’ campaign aims to challenge preconceptions that franchised dealers mean high repair costs.
One of the firm’s oldest approved UK car dealers, Murketts is focusing on older, out-of-warranty models with the marketing drive for BMW’s older model service and repair programme.
MINIs are included, too.
It highlights the benefits of using the service to customers in the bold campaign:
• Genuine parts and lubricants
• Competitive prices
• Complementary car valet
• Vehicle health check
• Approved car dealer procedures followed
‘Few independents have the necessary training or expertise that authorised dealers have,’ claimed Adrian Gibbins, Murketts’ aftersales manager. But still, the recession is causing many customers to reassess where they get their cars serviced.
In response, he said, comes the firm’s BMW MINI Value Service. ‘As an Authorised BMW and MINI Repairer, we are obliged to keep within the manufacturer’s prescribed times for servicing work using factory trained technicians and fixed menu pricing for work carried out and parts used – which independents do not have to adhere to.’
Leading to the bold claim of the campaign – ‘it’s a myth that ‘specialists’ cost less than we do’.
A no-holds-barred approach to marketing premium make aftersales schemes for older cars. Do you think the firm has hit upon something?

It is general perception that car dealerships are expensive which is why many people look for parts at breakers yards or motor factors as a cheaper option. We at AutoPartsFinder.co.uk are trying to steer this aftermarket business back the way of the dealers by creating an all makes database for genuine approved dealership parts.
Many if not all dealers have not only current off the shelf market parts but also large amounts of redundant or obsolescent parts, the problem is most don’t even list these parts on their own website let alone anywhere else so how does anyone know what they have!?
By developing relationships and working more closely with dealers we are working to create a system that not only allows dealerships to openly advertise to a much larger audience (the world wide web users) but for that audience to freely locate and have access to the massive amount of genuine approved parts that currently lie on dealerships shelves new and unused and that would eventually after time be discarded.
