Big recall for Kia star
June 16th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
KIA is recalling 6585 Picanto models to replace the fuel filler neck due to possible damage from road grit.
Some leaks have already occurred, which is why the company is taking action.
Dealers will be seeing owners of Picantos built between November 2009-February 2010.
The 6585 total is a decent proportion of Picanto sales; 7700 were sold during the first 3 months of 2010, for example.
Hamish McCowan, director of after-sales and logistics said: ‘Safety is always our top priority and our on-going product assessment and research has revealed these two potential problems.
‘We have immediately put in place a process to contact owners and the work will be conducted by Kia dealers at a convenient time for customers.
‘I would apologise to any owner whose vehicle may be affected and at the same time I would like to assure them that we believe we are acting before anyone in the UK has experienced any issue.’
In a separate recall, 468 cee’d family hatchbacks are also being recalled to have a new brake master cylinder fitted. This is to cure the possibility that some ESP-equipped cars may suffer from insufficient braking force, said the firm.
