BEN charity cuts jobs
April 16th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
AUTOMOTIVE industry charity BEN has announced job cuts – due to both the recession and rising demand for its resources.
New car sales down nearly a third mean the car industry cannot maintain a high level of contributions to BEN.
This has seen income decline by 10 percent over the past 12 months. Even more worryingly, the charity predicts further declines next year.
Yet, numbers of people seeking help from BEN have RISEN by 10 percent.
The only way to balance the books is to implement a round of cost savings, said BEN chief exec David Main.
Regrettably, part of this is a reduced staff headcount, while changes to working arrangements will save further cash. In total, BEN aims to save more than £1 million
‘We have to respond to the expected drop in our income,’ said Main, ‘but we remain determined that we will continue to deliver high quality care and support to residents in our four centres, and to the 15,000 men, women and children we help in the community.
‘We still enjoy fantastic support from those in our industry, even if their capacity to give financial help to us at this time is reduced.’
All of which makes any help you and Car Dealer Magazine can provide all the more imperative. Our Bangers4BEN drive was a huge success… rest assured, we’re working on the successor to this initiative, and will be announcing more details soon.
