Gov’t help ‘essential’

July 21st, 2009 by Richard Aucock

auto-boss-government-help-e28098essentialEXPERIAN’S automotive business MD, Kirk Fletcher, has given his support to the Government’s industry aid work.

Speaking about the recent House of Commons report into the car industry, he said ‘the report highlights how important the government’s efforts to counter the effects of the recession are to the automotive industry.’

There was one particular scheme he praised highly, too.

‘The government’s car scrappage scheme… has impacted positively on new car sales. It is good to see the strong support provided by vehicle brands and dealers in order to capitalise on the scheme.

‘It has also given much-needed focus upon the industry, and created footfall for dealers who are then able to re-engage with consumers at this challenging time.’

Car dealers who think smart will be able to use the extra interest generated by the scheme to boost their business opportunities.

But it’s not just new car sales where Fletcher is seeing positive improvements. Used car feedback is currently ‘very strong,’ he added.

The trick now is to turn these signs of improvement into longer-term boosts for the UK car industry.

‘With this in mind, we welcome the focus that the report will continue to bring to the industry, and support the recommendations that have been made.’
