Audi’s Mercedes CLS rival
June 18th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
AUDI car dealers will, from October, get a surprise new Audi to sell – the A5 Sportback hatchback.
The five-door model is a surprise addition to the A5 coupe and cabriolet range.
Audi is also keeping it tightly under wraps for now, releasing only a close-up image of the rear hatchback.
Nevertheless, it’s released full prices and details to car dealers, prior to the October launch.
Similar in spirit to the Mercedes CLS four-door coupe, it costs a lot less – from £27,140 for the 2.0 TDI SE model.
It’s lower than an A4 saloon, has pillarless doors, a tapering rear roofline and a long wheelbase.
It also continues a heritage of distinctive Audi hatchbacks.
Inside, Audi reveals there is a 480-litre boot, doubled with the rear seats folded.
Four engines will be available; 211PS 2.0-litre TFSI petrol, 170PS 2.0-litre TDI, 240PS 3.0-litre TDI V6 and a 3.2-litre V6 petrol with eight-speed multitronic auto,
No automatic has less than seven gears.
More details – and, we hope, more images! – will follow prior to that October launch…
2.0 TFSI quattro SE 211PS 7-speed S tronic: £30,325
3.2 FSI SE 265PS 8-speed multitronic: £33,910
2.0 TDI SE 170PS 6-speed manual: £27,140
3.0 TDI SE 240PS 7-speed S tronic: £34,020
