£160k raised by BEN

BEN has received a welcome festive boost to its coffers, thanks to the Annual Ball raising nearly £160,000.
The Grosvenor House Hotel event saw over 700 guests be entertained by dinner, performances from the Bands of the Life Guards – and, of course, a night’s dancing.
But it was lucky to happen at all. BEN’s director of fundraising and communications, Charles Davis, believes that the charity was fortunate to proceed with the Ball. Lots of similar events have been cancelled or postponed due to lack of support.
‘Since its inception in 1927, the only time the Ball has not taken place was during World War II,’ he said.
‘If we had been forced to cancel, an industry that is proud to fly the flag of solidarity in supporting its people through BEN would have been defeated, and we are simply not an industry that would let this happen.’
Kelly Neal, BEN’s head of events, said: ‘It was wonderful to see our many friends from the industry, old and new, coming together to enjoy the occasion and celebrate BEN.
‘So many companies contribute to the evening’s success through donations of time, prizes and lots for auction that it has become an event staged by the industry, for the industry.’
Neal also looked forward to next year, which will be the BEN Ball’s 75th Anniversary. ‘We are already working hard, to ensure we bring you something even more spectacular, that will pay suitable homage to such a significant milestone.’
