‘25m’ scrap scheme OK?
April 22nd, 2009 by Richard Aucock
80 percent of Britain’s motorists would SUPPORT a new car scrap scheme – that’s 25 million drivers!
What’s more, says the survey from uswitch.com, over a third would choose a greener car when making the switch.
They survey comes on the day of the Budget, when Chancellor Alistair Darling is widely expected to announce such a scheme.
The incentive scheme, which could offer up to £2000 off the price of a green new car, is seen by many in the industry as a way of stimulating new car demand.
A similar scheme in Germany has already seen a massive sales uplift of 40 percent.
However, the uswitch survey does warn that caps could be imposed on any scheme in the UK. A figure of £560 million is mooted – which means that a maximum of 280,000 people would potentially benefit.
But that’s still a MASSIVE number of sales, and could provide the industry with just the stimulus it needs.
Car Dealer Magazine is covering the budget LIVE today, and will be hanging on Alistair Darling’s every word.
